Pictures from this years festival, celebrating Italian heritage for 2010 |
| The 2010 Vendemmia Wilmington Waterfront Italian Festival was the second year that we had the opportunity to share not only wine but how the winemaking process is done. |
This year Robert Torres & Cindy Soden/Francia (below) hosted the 2010 Vendemmia Waterfront Italian Festival. We brought 80 bottles of wine and left with less than 12. Not bad for a free tasting.
We had help: Cindy’s daughter Katie & Andrew plus, Dave Schluter, Nancy Henderson, and Joe & Deb Jezyk, & Pat Markovic.
The event was fantastic with beautiful weather and lots of food – wine – music & just plain fun… |

Making Wine |

Andrew & Katie Francia, Cindy's daughter lend a hand to serve wine to the festival guests. |

Curious guests ask questions such as: were are the grapes from, where is the winery, how long does it take to make wine.... |

Reds f fermenterment then press
Whites press then ferment

Among our friends who chiped in to help setup and serv the wine are the following. |

Chianti was the favorite Wine to be poured at the festival. People just kept coming back to try it and saying that someone told them to come over to the homemade wine sampling table and get some before it's gone.

| The Judges Table |
 |
|

There were 3 judges that had to choose winners for some 40 contestant winemakers that were allowed to enter up to 3 bottles each per household. I believe there were approximately 50 to 60 bottles to judge from. The categories were Reds, Whites, & Other, which mostly included fruit wines.
|
Wine Contest Judging |
After the judges tallied up their totals the announcements were released and the winners were summoned to the stage for their awards. It is always a real nail biter at this point of the festival, but one has to keep in mind that it is not about winning but simply making the best homemade wine for others to enjoy. I know from experience that there is no higher compliment than when a person takes a sip of your swine and smiles, than say's wow "this isreally good and you made this". For me that says volumes. As a member of the Wilmington Wine Guild we share a common interest in art of making wine either from Kits – (all year long), or Varietal Juice and or Varietal Grapes in season.
